Thanks PaNkAJ. My granddaughters agree, they too use Firefox but because IE is all Ive ever used, I found Firefox to be confusing lol. So if i remove IE from my add/remove programs what about the critical updates that i downloaded? Should they be removed also? Will wait to hear back from you.

Re: Need Help with Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needed to close
Apparently my system is infected with a polymorphic file infector called Virut. It appears the only solution suggested is a format and clean install which i have never done. In this case i guess switching from IE to firefox wouldn't make a bit of difference OR would it? Ive spent hours trying to fix this to no avail.

Use this to Remove Virut Virus
With Win32/Virut Remover you'll be able to get rid of the virus infection in no time. All you need to do is download the two files and run the executable.
You can also specify the disks (or partitions) to heal as a command parameters, e.g.: "rmvirut C: D:". If the command is used without parameters, it heals all disks (partitions) on computer.
Note:
Successful running of the remover requires administrator rights. For proper functionality of the remover it is necessary to save the rmvirut.nt into the same folder as rmvirut.exe. After the healing process please run the AVG Complete Test to make sure your computer is virus-free.Guests Register to see the forum...Read & Follow the Rules

Re: Need Help with Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needed to close
Thanks so much, didn't realize there was another alternative. I am a novice so there is one part i really dont understand which is the following quote:
You can also specify the disks (or partitions) to heal as a command parameters, e.g.: "rmvirut C: D:". If the command is used without parameters, it heals all disks (partitions) on computer. and this part: For proper functionality of the remover it is necessary to save the rmvirut.nt into the same folder as rmvirut.exe. Can you possibly explain it in a way like step by step so i can fully understand exactly what im to do and how? I know this is asking alot from you but your my only hope. Also im suppose to run an avg complete test but i downloaded avg off the internet earlier this evening and it found trojans and viruses but wouldn't remove any of them, an error box would come up and say they were in use or something to that effect or read only. Cant seem to find an antivirus or spyware program that will actually remove everything without asking me to buy it or for a license key.
